This piece follows two people, a retired marine sniper named Hector Vasquez who takes care of his stepchildren even through his girlfriend dumped him and the childrens school counselor. Her name is Lilah Howe, shes a child/criminal psychologist. When childrens behavior starts changing shes the first one to see it, when they go missing shes the only one spotting the signs of an old cult she was sure had long since died.
Somehow through all of this Hector and Lilah try to balance a budding relationship that must withstand his PTSD and the looming shadow of a returning cult.
